One of the biggest draws of Sudbury from a photography standpoint is the abundance of pristine lakes with stunning backdrops. The bright blue waters and rocky shores make for a quintessential Northern Ontario scene.
This large conservation area boasts beautiful trails that wind along the shores of Lake Laurentian. With sheltered bays, sandy beaches, and sun-dappled trees, you’ll find plenty of photogenic spots for family photos here. The park allows professional photographers with a permit.
Another Sudbury favorite is Ramsey Lake right in the heart of the city. The large lake has several lovely beaches and park areas along its shores that provide terrific vantage points. Go for an iconic shot with the towering inukshuks in the background.
For a more rustic backdrop, the rural countryside around Sudbury provides too many opportunities to count. From rolling hills to winding creeks, these settings offer a taste of the region’s natural beauty.
About a 40 minute drive from Sudbury, this provincial park contains ample trails, fields, and waterways to use as a photography setting. The old barns and farmhouses also add some classic Canadiana charm. Permits are required.
The nearby town of Capreol is a goldmine for photographers looking for country scenery and wide open spaces. We can take family photos at one of the petting farms or surrounded by vast meadows and forests.
Don’t forget, I also capture youth and adult sports teams!
Sudbury itself has an array of photogenic urban areas and parks that make for memorable family portraits with a downtown vibe. Here are some top city locales:
This large city park runs along Junction Creek and offers multiple picturesque bridges, wide open green spaces, and flower gardens. I especially love shooting there in the spring and fall.
With its large trees, paved paths, and monuments, Memorial Park provides a classic city park backdrop for portraits. The neighborhood around the park also has some charming residential streets lined with older homes.
For urban flair, we can take portraits along some of the most picturesque streets in Downtown Sudbury. Lilly Creek runs right through the downtown, providing natural scenery among the urban landscapes.
While many clients prefer the scenery of an outdoor setting, there’s something to be said for the sense of familiarity and comfort that a home provides for family photos. Hosting our portrait session in your own home is a wonderful option that lets you be surrounded by your personal memories and meaningful belongings. From candid moments in the living room to posed shots on the front steps, in-home sessions create a warm, intimate vibe.
There are many reasons to consider taking your family portraits right in your own abode:
Youngsters often feel most at ease in the home environment they know so well. This natural ease translates to more authentic expressions and interactions captured in the photos.
These days, families want their furry companions included in portraits. Your pets will be far more relaxed at home than at an outdoor shoot location.
With an in-home session, there’s no time crunch or concerns about dealing with uncooperative weather. We can shoot for as long as it takes to get the perfect array of images.
Your home is a blank canvas that we can customize with any props, styling, lamps, you name it to build creative, personalized portrait settings.
From the nursery décor to grandma’s rocking chair, incorporating familiar background details instantly imbues the portraits with sentimental value.
Whatever setting you prefer, I’m happy to accommodate! In-home sessions ensure a comfortable, hassle-free experience where we can spend ample unhurried time creating natural, meaningful family portraits you’ll adore.
While I’ve highlighted some potential locations, I’m always happy to hear your input and any locations that are meaningful to your family. We can turn just about any spot into a memorable backdrop. I also provide access to my extensive collection of creative props and accessories to customize your portrait session. See what working with me looks like!
My biggest recommendation when choosing a location is to seek variety. Opting for a location that provides multiple scene options means your final photo gallery will be visually dynamic and unique. We can take some shots in an open field, others along a wooded trail, and even incorporate urban textures if desired.
No matter where we choose to do your session, rest assured I’ll apply my passionate creativity and expert family photography skills. My approach is to simply have fun together and let those organic, joyful moments unfold before my lens. Booking your family’s portrait session is the first step towards getting those frame-worthy photos you’ll cherish forever. Let’s get in touch!
