As a wedding photographer in Sudbury, I’ve had the privilege of capturing love stories in countless venues across our region. But today, I want to share my excitement about one of our city’s most remarkable new wedding venues: Knox Hall. This transformed church building has quickly become one of my favorite spaces to photograph, and I’m thrilled to tell you why.
When I first learned that local entrepreneurs Liana Bacon and Dan Guillemette had purchased Knox Church in June 2023, I knew something special was brewing. As the owners of beloved local establishments like The Night Owl and Books and Beans, this power couple has a proven track record of creating unique spaces that serve our community. Their vision for Knox Hall, however, might be their most impressive achievement yet.
What strikes me most about Knox Hall as a photographer is how beautifully they’ve preserved the building’s historic charm while modernizing it for today’s events. The renovation process has been thoughtful and strategic, creating a versatile space that works perfectly for weddings of various sizes and styles.
The upper level, with its fixed auditorium seating for 325 guests, offers a magnificent backdrop for wedding ceremonies. As someone who’s photographed countless “I dos,” I can tell you that the natural light filtering through the historic windows creates the most ethereal atmosphere for ceremony photos. The elevated stage area provides the perfect focal point for couples exchanging their vows, while ensuring every guest has an excellent view of the proceedings.
For couples planning a more intimate celebration, the lower hall is a hidden gem. With flexible seating arrangements accommodating up to 60 guests for a seated dinner or 180 for a standing reception, this space can transform to match your vision. I’ve photographed several events in this versatile space, and the possibilities for creative setups are endless.

As a photographer, let me share what makes Knox Hall particularly special for wedding photography:
One of the most remarkable features of Knox Hall is its incredible acoustics. Whether you’re planning to have live music during your ceremony or a DJ for your reception, the sound quality is exceptional. This isn’t just about music – it means your vows will be heard clearly by every guest in attendance.
Natural light is a photographer’s best friend, and Knox Hall has it in spades. The beautiful windows provide gorgeous natural illumination during daytime ceremonies, while the thoughtfully designed lighting system ensures perfect ambiance for evening celebrations.
What I love most about photographing weddings at Knox Hall is the variety of backdrops available within a single venue. From the grand main hall to the more intimate lower level, from historic architectural details to modern amenities, every corner offers unique photo opportunities.
What sets Knox Hall apart is its commitment to being more than just a wedding venue. The space has already hosted numerous cultural events, from concerts featuring JUNO-award winning artists to comedy shows and literary events. This versatility speaks to the venue’s ability to accommodate various aspects of your wedding weekend – from rehearsal dinners to the ceremony and reception.
As someone who frequently works in downtown Sudbury, I’ve witnessed firsthand the positive changes happening in our city center. Knox Hall is part of an exciting downtown renaissance, joining other new businesses in bringing fresh energy to the area. This makes it an ideal location for couples who want their wedding to be part of our city’s vibrant cultural scene.
If you’re considering Knox Hall for your wedding, here are some key points to remember:
As someone who has photographed weddings in venues across Sudbury, I can honestly say that Knox Hall offers something unique. The combination of historical architecture, modern amenities, and thoughtful design creates a perfect canvas for wedding photography. But more than that, it’s a space that feels alive with possibility – where every couple can write their own story and create their own memories.
When Liana and Dan first walked through Knox Church and imagined its future, they saw its potential as a music hall. What they’ve created is so much more – a versatile, beautiful space that serves our community in multiple ways, including as a stunning wedding venue. As a photographer, I couldn’t be more excited to continue capturing love stories within these historic walls.
